ABOUT JOHN5XR - HONDA SMALL-BORE AND MOTORSPORTS ENTHUSIAST

(John Adamczyk officially!)

Most people know me as John Adamczyk, a 39 year old guy from Central Florida who is also the owner of 5X Racing, a Mazda Miata racing parts company (hence the "5XR"). If you've found this blog, chances are you might know me from YouTube though. If you wanna know about my YouTube story, I have that for you in the "YouTube" page here on this site, but YouTube is the primary reason I started this blog. More about me though...

My life has always involved motorsports starting with being born into motorsports via my father Rick Adamczyk, who was a professional boat racer until the mid-90's. I traveled the country as a kid with my parents attending professional boat races and growing up in the pits. I can claim to have seen most of the United States looking through the windshield from the back of an old Ford box van, albeit the majority of my sights were what bordered the interstates we were on as there was no time for time wasting at fun places! (except that one time we stopped at Wisconsin Dells!)

As a kid, I grew up riding as my father and I explored the mountains of Upstate NY on our Honda ATC's (mine a 70, his a 125). Back home I raced karts starting at 8-years old until we moved to Florida from Long Island NY when I was 12. Florida wasn't the hub of road course kart racing back then like it is now - and our ATC's remained at our Upstate NY mountain retreat - so I shifted focus to ice hockey and dirt bikes throughout high school. Having an 87' Honda CR125, an old Ford tractor, and 5-acres of sugar sand to play with, I crafted a simple motorcross track and rode nearly everyday, but never really raced motocross! Turning 16-years old brought cars into my life, and with it a passion for Mustangs. Mustangs led to speeding tickets, and with that was the end of my motocross hobby as I needed to sell the CR125 to pay for my "adventures" on the road. Mustangs became my life for many years, which led to racing (drag and auto-x mostly), and this led to Mazda Miatas, more specifically the Spec Miata racing class of the SCCA. Realizing Mustangs would be way too expensive for a first step into road racing, I began my auto racing career at 25-years old with a 1991 Mazda Miata that my dad and I built for the Spec Miata racing class.

Spec Miata racing inspired my father and I to create some pretty trick parts for our cars (he began racing SM a year later) and this led to me starting my own brand and retail business to sell these parts - 5X Racing. 5X Racing became a formidable business over the years and provides my wife Brittany with a full-time job while I still maintain a career in Industrial IT for the power and utilities industry. We have two Spec Miata race cars which we race in Florida and use as our "test mules" for new parts. I also have a 2006 Mazda MX-5 which I drive on the street and use for prototype parts testing. I plan to involve more of my Mazda focuses to my YouTube channel in the future, but have been posting this content to our 5X Racing YouTube channel if you're interested to learn more.

So if you're still reading, you might be wondering "so why did you start a blog about small-bore motorcycles and parts reviews?" Good question! It's all because of my son Rennen! My son Rennen (6-years old at the time of this writing) was destined to grow up a lot like myself: involved in motorsports. What we didn't expect was for him to find his passion in two-wheeled motorsports! With auto racing comes the need for a "pit bike", as the paddocks are so widespread and you often find yourself needing to traverse them many times over the course of the weekend. The pit bike I had when Rennen was about a year old was a 1978 Yamaha YZ80. The 2-stroke sound and smell must have infected him, cause after just a few rides around the paddock, he would sit on the bike while it was in our garage and make engine sounds, imagining he was riding it himself. At 18-months old, we bought him a Strider balance bike after he tried it at a powersports dealer and threw himself on the floor crying when we said it was time to put it back. The Strider bike turned into many more balance bikes - as he broke them from riding too hard - and this led to a Razor MX350 electric bike, which he also broke after a few months. At the age of 3 1/2, I put him on a Yamaha PW50 because I didn't want to buy another Razor. From there, he became quite the little rider on the backyard track I built for him. We even took him to his first motocross race before he was 3-years old! Along that timeline, I upgraded my pit bikes and purchased the 2019 Honda Monkey 125 as my newest pit bike to replace the YZ80 (which was a bit high-strung for the pits!). The Monkey kicked off my YouTube channel (that story here), and I became very much "re-involved" with motorcycles after about a 20-year hiatus. With Rennen having the passion for motocross, I knew he'd need a riding partner as he grew, so I have collected a variety of bikes to ride with him along his riding journey.

SO, long story short, the purpose of this blog is to create a "home base" for my content creation. A place to where I can share my work with the world, whether it be my latest YouTube video, a product review, motorcycle news, travel adventures, and most of all, a place for me to practice my craft of writing, which I also enjoy (and which you probably already assumed!).

So with that, I hope you enjoyed - and continue to enjoy - my story. I also hope you benefit from my reviews and product overviews, and further benefit from special discounts I'm able to provide from partnerships I've forged with the amazing manufacturers I'm lucky enough to have partnered with.

Thanks for reading,

John
